The eyes are the most precious sensory organs of the human body and an important window for acquiring external information

Early childhood is a crucial period for visual development, and it is the shared aspiration of parents, kindergartens, and even the whole society to help young children have healthy and bright eyes.

With the advancement of technology and the widespread use of electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets, the eyesight of young children has generally declined. Vision screening for young children is imperative. Adhering to the principle of early detection, early intervention, and early treatment for children with visual abnormalities, we aim to popularize knowledge on eye care and protection.

On July 19th, Weipu Eye Hospital, in conjunction with Meishan Aibei Wenjiang International Kindergarten, launched a public welfare vision screening campaign!

Medical staff conducted careful examinations on each child and some accompanying parents using scientific instruments. They made diagnoses based on their ages and visual conditions and diligently kept relevant records. The screening results were promptly fed back to the parents, enabling them to timely understand their children’s visual development and eye health status.

The hyperopic reserve of young children and the importance of early intervention

What exactly is hyperopic reserve? In fact, it is a protective mechanism of the eyes that can reduce the risk of myopia. However, insufficient hyperopic reserve can easily lead to myopia.

Therefore, it is necessary to adopt certain intervention measures to maintain children’s hyperopic reserve, thereby preventing the onset of myopia.

However, intervention measures cannot fully prevent the onset of myopia, but they can delay its occurrence. In other words, by taking certain measures, we can try our best to help children postpone the age of myopia onset to after 10 years old and control the annual progression rate of myopia to no more than 50 degrees. This way, the later myopia develops in children, the better; at the same time, it can also reduce the risk of high myopia.

   How to Protect Hyperopic Reserve?

  1. Control children’s screen time to reduce eye fatigue and overuse.
  2. Conduct regular eye examinations to detect and address eye problems in a timely manner.
  3. Maintaining good living habits—such as adequate sleep and appropriate exercise—is also an important measure to prevent myopia.
  4. Proper eye exercises and eye relaxation can also help protect eye health.

Through this activity, Weipu Eye Hospital and Meishan Aibei Wenjiang International Kindergarten have jointly built a bridge to safeguard children’s eye health. Eye health is an indispensable part of children’s growth and requires the joint efforts of families, schools, and society. Early detection, early intervention, and early treatment will lay a solid foundation for children’s future.
